DAVIDSON ARCHITECTS
Designs that are grounded in nature and created for living.
DAVIDSON
Davidson is a stunning part of New South Wales, nestled between the lush expanses of Garigal National Park and the vibrant communities of the Northern Beaches. Characterised by undulating terrain, mature eucalyptus canopies and tranquil streetscapes, Davidson offers a unique blend of bushland serenity, coastal characteristics and suburban ease.
At Ironbark Architecture, we have years of experience designing and building in the Northern Beaches, including Davidson. We specialise in creating homes that seamlessly integrate with the natural world, maximising light and views, while also focusing on privacy and sustainability.
Davidson is a unique place, with a distinctive beauty – and, of course, there are challenges and opportunities that arise from that beauty. We’d love to embrace those opportunities with you, and create a design that’s grounded in nature and created for living.
WE UNDERSTAND DAVIDSON
Designing in Davidson requires a nuanced approach – one that respects the area’s unique characteristics, topography and community, as well as neighbouring suburbs like Pymble, Belrose and Frenchs Forest. Many properties in Davidson are situated on steep blocks, which requires innovative design solutions to optimise accessibility, space and flow. And its proximity to bushland also means adhering to stringent BAL (Bushfire Attack Level) ratings, to ensure homes are both safe and compliant.
Our team creates designs that are as functional as they are beautiful, and that embrace the distinctive beauty and characteristics of Davidson, preserving native flora and minimising ecological disruption.
AND BECAUSE WE’RE DAVIDSON ARCHITECTS WE UNDERSTAND:
How to design for steep blocks that back onto bushland
The complexity of construction access on tight, sloping sites
The planning sensitivities around erosion-prone zones and native vegetation
How to position your home to capture treetop views and cross-breezes
The demands of high BAL ratings and how to design for bushfire resilience
The council approval process for coastal and bushfire-prone properties
The value of strong ties with local builders, tradespeople and suppliers
The beauty of designing sustainably for place
OUR WORK
In Davidson, leafy streets, elevated blocks and bushland surrounds shape the way homes are designed and lived in. Our work in Davidson focuses on creating family-friendly, light-filled spaces that connect seamlessly to the natural landscape. Whether updating classic brick homes or reimagining properties tucked into the bush, we design with comfort, functionality and the suburb’s unique greenery in mind.

ON OUR DESK
Davidson mid-century Pettit+Sevitt renovation
Currently in the design stage, this Davidson project is the renovation of a stunning, and architecturally significant mid-century home designed by Ken Woolley in the 1960s. The steeply sloping block backs onto bushland and carries a BAL-FZ bushfire rating. This context required careful consideration to balance the family’s needs and the aesthetics and comfort of the home with the protection of the natural setting.
The home owners wanted to improve access to their home, add car parking and create more space for their growing family. Our design solution is a clever split-level addition – which echoed the split-level design of the original house – with a small and sustainable footprint that honours the character of the original architecture while providing a new street-level entry with attached parking.
By stacking the additions on top of the existing building we not only minimised the footprint, but also avoided removing gorgeous surrounding trees, while meeting every part of the brief for the homeowners – from bushfire resilience to functional family living.
“We are so glad that we had Chris on our side, he walked us though the compliance issues with BAL-FZ, worked with us to come up with a design that suited our family needs as well as kept the mid century design aspects that we desired. ”

Our approach to designing in the Northern Beaches and Davidson, whether you’re renovating an existing home or building something from the ground up, is rooted in collaboration and respect for your site and the surrounding environment. As Northern Beaches architects we design spaces that respect the place in which they sit, embracing serene bushland vistas or orienting living areas to embrace cool ocean breezes.
At Ironbark Architecture our designs aim to enhance your life and your lifestyle, while honouring the unique character of Davison.
-
Much of Davidson is adjacent to native reserves and bushland, and this necessitates a proactive approach to bushfire resilience. Our team are bushfire architecture experts and have years of experience creating designs that respond to BAL (Bushfire Attack Level) requirements.
We also conduct comprehensive site assessments to determine BAL ratings and implement design strategies that include utilising fire-resistant materials, adopting strategic landscaping and using smart floor plans to facilitate safe egress and minimise risk.
Working with other bushfire consultants, we ensure that your home not only meets all the standards, but exceeds them. You can be confident that your home and family will be safe in an Ironbark designed home.

Sustainability is at the core of our design philosophy. In Davidson this translates into sustainable home designs that are energy-efficient, environmentally responsible and in harmony with the surroundings.
We utilise passive design elements such as solar design, orienting buildings to optimise natural heating and cooling, natural ventilation, sustainable materials that blend with the natural environment.
Our designs not only reduce your ecological footprint, but also create a beautiful living experience as well. We’ll help you create a home that is good for the environment and feels good to live in.
